Krasnoyarsk, Russia, a city in central Siberia. It is located at the point where the Trans-Siberian Railway crosses the Yenisey River, and is a major transportation and industrial center. Machine-building, metalworking, and food processing are important industries. Located here are polytechnic, agricultural, and forestry institutes. Nearby on the Yenisey is Krasnoyarsk Dam, one of the world's most powerful hydroelectric stations. The city was founded in 1628.
