Geography of Perm

Perm, Russia, a city on the Kama River near the Ural Mountains, about 700 miles (1,130 km) east of Moscow. Perm is within the Urals industrial region and is an important manufacturing and transportation center. The city has a state university, a symphony orchestra, and an opera and ballet company.

Perm was settled in the 16th century and became a regional administrative center. During and after World War II, industrialization and population growth were rapid. Perm was called Molotov between 1940 and 1957.
