Geography of Ivanovo

Ivanovo, Russia, the capital of Ivanovo oblast (region). It is situated along both sides of the Uvod River, about 150 miles (240 km) northeast of Moscow. Ivanovo is a major textile-producing center. Also produced here are chemicals, machinery, and processed foods. Ivanovo State University and several technical institutes are in the city. Ivanovo was founded in the 14th century. It merged with Voznesensk, a neighboring village, in 1871 and was known as Ivanovo-Voznesensk until 1932.
