Geography of Ulyanovsk

Ulyanovsk, Russia, a city and port on the Volga River. It is also a major railway junction and manufacturing center producing transportation equipment, machine tools, and precision instruments. The city was founded in 1648 and called Simbirsk. It was renamed in 1924 in honor of Lenin (whose real family name was Ulyanov), who was born here.
