Geography of Maui
Maui, one of the islands making up the state of Hawaii. Maui lies in the North Pacific Ocean about 35 miles (55 km) northwest of the island of Hawaii. Covering 728 square miles (1,886 km2), Maui is the second largest of the Hawaiian Islands. Like the other islands, Maui is of volcanic origin. One of the island's most prominent features is Haleakala, an extinct volcano with a massive crater. Tourism and agriculture are the mainstays of Maui's economy.
