Geography of Kennewick
Kennewick, Washington, a city in Benton County. It is on the Columbia River just north of the Snake River's mouth, in the southeastern part of the state. Kennewick and neighboring Richland and Pasco are referred to as the Tri-Cities. Large tracts of highly productive farmland are in the vicinity. Hydroelectric dams on the Columbia and Snake rivers provide abundant power.
Kennewick was founded in 1892 and was incorporated in 1904. It remained small until after the completion of the nearby Hanford Works by the Atomic Energy Commission in the 1940's. Kennewick and the Tri-City area have subsequently had rapid growth.
