Geography of Pocatello

Pocatello, Idaho, one of the state's largest cities and the seat of Bannock County. It is on the Portneuf River near its junction with the Snake, in the southeastern part of the state. Nearby is American Falls Reservoir. Pocatello is an industrial city and a transportation center, serving a rich agricultural and phosphate-producing area. Idaho State University is here. Pocatello, named for a Shoshone Indian chief, was settled in 1882.
