Geography of New Iberia

New Iberia, Louisiana, the seat of Iberia Parish. It is on the Bayou Teche 50 miles (80 km) southwest of Baton Rouge, and is joined by canal to the Intracoastal Waterway. The city produces refined petroleum, canned foods, and sugar. The area was settled in the late 18th century and became a city in 1839.
