Geography of Columbia

Columbia, Missouri, the seat of Boone County, in the central part of the state. Since the founding of the University of Missouri here in 1839, the city has been chiefly an educational center. Associated with the university are several museums, including museums of art and archeology. Columbia College and Stephens College are also here. The city was founded in 1819.
