Aberdeen, South Dakota, the seat of Brown County. It is 117 miles (188 km) northeast of Pierre. Products include automobile parts, tools, and computer components. Aberdeen is an agricultural marketing center. Northern State University is here.

Aberdeen was founded in 1881 with the coming of the Milwaukee Road railway and was named after Aberdeen, Scotland. It was incorporated as a town in 1882 and chartered as a city in 1883. The Fischer quintuplets—the first surviving quintuplets to be born in the United States—were born here in 1963. Aberdeen has the commission form of government.
