, Mexico, the capital of Puebla State. It is in the Central Plateau region 68 miles (109 km) east-southeast of Mexico City, at about 7,200 feet (2,200 m) above sea level. Puebla is a commercial, industrial, and transportation center for a crop and livestock region. Textiles, colored tiles, and pottery are among the leading products. Puebla was founded by the Spanish in the 16th century.
