Geography of Khabarovsk
Khabarovsk, Russia, a city in eastern Siberia at the junction of the Amur and Ussuri rivers, near the Chinese border. It is 400 miles (640 km) northeast of Vladivostok and the Sea of Japan.
Khabarovsk is an industrial center, producing a wide variety of industrial and consumer products. It is also a transportation center served by the Trans-Siberian Railway, a river port, and a major airport.
Khabarovsk was founded in 1858, when Russia gained the region from China. It was named for Yerofey Khabarov, a Russian explorer who led several expeditions to the region in the 17th century. Major growth came after the city was reached by the Trans-Siberian Railway in 1916.
