Geography of Jaipur

Jaipur, India, the capital of Rajasthan state. It is in northern India 147 miles (237 km) southwest of New Delhi. Jaipur is a commercial and transportation center that trades in grain, wool, and cotton, and produces textiles, glass, and fine jewelry. Rajasthan University, a medical college, and a government art school and museum are here. Jaipur is one of the few Indian cities with wide streets and rectangular blocks. It was founded as a capital in 1727 by Maharaja Jai Singh II. His Hava Mahal (Palace of the Breeze) still stands.
