Indore, India, a city in west-central India, in Madhya Pradesh state. It is a commercial and industrial center, producing mainly textiles. Shortly after its founding early in the 18th century, Indore rose to prominence as the residence of the maharajas of Indore. A royal palace and a Jain temple are the city's leading attractions.
