Geography of Pune
, India, a city in Maharashtra State. It is on the Mula and Mutha rivers, 80 miles (129 km) southeast of Mumbai. Pune is a commercial, manufacturing, and transport center for an agricultural area. Among the attractions here are the Botanical Gardens and several museums, including one devoted to Indian art. The University of Pune is here. Pune was under the Marathas in the 17th century, and became capital of the Maratha empire in the 18th century. It fell to the British in 1817.
