Classic Liverwurst Spread Recipe: Easy & Delicious

 
Best of the Wurst Spread

Prep and Cook Time 15 minutes

YIELD Makes 12 (3-tablespoon) servings

INGREDIENTS

1 tablespoon butter or margarine 1/2 cup finely chopped onion 1 package (16 ounces) liverwurst 1/4 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing 1/4 cup finely chopped dill pickle 1 tablespoon drained capers 2 teaspoons horseradish mustard or spicy brown mustard 2 teaspoons dried dill weed 1/4 small dill pickle, cut into strips Crackers or cocktail rye bread

PREPARATION:

  1. Heat butter in small saucepan over medium heat until melted. Add onion; cook and stir 5 minutes or until tender. Set aside.
  2. Mash liverwurst with fork in medium bowl; beat in onion, mayonnaise, chopped dill pickle, capers, mustard and dill weed.
  3. Form liverwurst mixture into football shape on serving plate; decorate with dill pickle strips to look like football laces. Serve with crackers.
Serve It With Style! For added flavor, serve this spread with mustard toast instead of rye bread. To prepare mustard toast, lightly spread horseradish mustard or spicy brown mustard onto cocktail rye bread slices. Broil 4 inches from heat until lightly browned.
