Geography of Bayonne
Bayonne, New Jersey, a city in Hudson County. It is immediately south of Jersey City on a point of land lying between Newark Bay and Upper New York Bay, about six miles (10 km) southwest of New York City. The site of large refineries of several oil companies, Bayonne is served by pipelines connecting it with many parts of the United States. There is a large naval supply depot on Bayonne's waterfront.
The steel-arch Bayonne Bridge, one of the largest of its kind, spans Kill Van Kull, the waterway separating Bayonne from Staten Island, New York. (See Bridge, table titled Some Notable Bridges.)
Bayonne was settled by the Dutch in 1665 and was a part of Bergen until 1861. It has the mayor-council form of government.
