Geography of East Orange

East Orange, New Jersey, a city in Essex County. It adjoins Newark, New Jersey's largest city, and lies about 10 miles (16 km) west of New York City. East Orange is the largest of a group of cities known as “the Oranges”—the others are Orange, West Orange, and South Orange. East Orange is a residential and industrial city. The site was settled in 1678 and was originally part of Orange. It was separated from that city in 1863.
