Geography of Warwick

Warwick, Rhode Island, a city in Kent County. It lies on the western shore of Narragansett Bay just south of Providence. Warwick is primarily a residential suburb of Providence and a resort community, with light manufacturing industries. Rhode Island's main airport, T. F. Green State Airport, is here. Warwick was founded by Samuel Gorton in 1642 and admitted to the union of Providence Plantations a few years later. General Nathanael Greene, the Revolutionary War leader, was born here. In 1772 Rhode Island citizens burned the British revenue schooner Gaspee in the bay nearby. Warwick was incorporated as a city in 1931. It has the mayor-council form of government.
