Geography of Bethlehem
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, a city in Northampton and Lehigh counties. It is on the Lehigh River, about 50 miles (80 km) northwest of Philadelphia. The headquarters of the Bethlehem Steel Company is here. A nationally known Bach Festival, held each May, and a restored colonial industrial district are among the city's chief attractions. Lehigh University and Moravian College are in Bethlehem.
Bethlehem was founded in 1741 by Moravians exiled from Bohemia and Saxony for their religious views. It was incorporated as a borough in 1845 and as a city in 1917. It has the council-manager form of government.
