Geography of La Crosse

La Crosse, Wisconsin, the seat of La Crosse County. It is situated on the Mississippi River, 105 miles (170 km) northwest of Madison. La Crosse is a trading center for a large agricultural area. Its products include air-conditioning and heating equipment, automotive equipment, prefabricated metals, and beer. A branch of the University of Wisconsin and Viterbo College are here.

La Crosse was settled in 1842 and incorporated as a city in 1856. The city is governed by a mayor and city council.
