Belleville, Illinois, the seat of St. Clair County. It is in the southwestern part of the state, near St. Louis, Missouri, and is mainly an industrial and manufacturing city. Coal is mined in the area; Scott Air Force Base is nearby. Belleville was settled in 1806.
