Geography of Hannibal
Hannibal, Missouri, a city in Marion and Ralls counties. Hannibal is a port on the Mississippi at the Illinois border, 98 miles (158 km) northwest of St. Louis. Food and dairy products, building materials, and agricultural chemicals are produced.
Samuel L. Clemens (Mark Twain) spent most of his childhood and youth here. His home and the Mark Twain Museum are major attractions. Landmarks he described include Cardiff Hill and what is now called Mark Twain Cave. Hannibal was settled in 1817.
