Hutchinson, Kansas, the seat of Reno County. It is on the Arkansas River, 42 miles (68 km) northwest of Wichita. Oil and gas fields and salt mines are nearby. Hutchinson's principal employers are manufacturing plants, construction companies, and public utilities. The Kansas state fair is held here each September.

Hutchinson was settled in 1872. It has the council-manager form of government.
