Geography of Appleton

Appleton, Wisconsin, the seat of Outagamie County. It lies on the Fox River, just north of Lake Winnebago, in the east-central part of the state. Appleton is one of Wisconsin's leading industrial cities, with an economy centered primarily on the manufacturing of paper and paper products. Lawrence University is here. The Charles A. Grignon Mansion (1837) is a restored Greek Revival home with period furnishings.

Appleton was settled in 1835. It was incorporated as a town in 1853 and chartered as a city in 1857.
