Geography of Clinton
Clinton, Iowa, the seat of Clinton County. It is on the Mississippi River, in the easternmost part of the state. From 1850 to 1900 Clinton was a large lumber-producing city. Logs from Minnesota and Wisconsin were floated down the Mississippi River and processed here. Today, Clinton is an industrial city and a commercial center for a rich agricultural region. Clinton was founded in 1838 as New York. It was renamed for New York political leader DeWitt Clinton in 1855
