Dubuque, Iowa, the seat of Dubuque County. It is on the Mississippi River in the northeastern part of the state. Dubuque is an industrial city and the trade center for a rich agricultural region. Meat packing has long been a major activity. The city is served by rail, air, and barge lines. The University of Dubuque, Loras College, and Clarke College are here. Attractions include a side-wheel riverboat and a pre-Civil War shot tower. Dubuque was founded in 1833.
