Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor, Michigan, the seat of Washtenaw County. It lies on the Huron River, about 35 miles (56 km) west-southwest of downtown Detroit. Ann Arbor's factories produce ball bearings, automotive parts, appliances, and precision instruments and equipment. The city has long been a leading center of scientific and technical research. The University of Michigan is the city's largest employer.

Ann Arbor was settled in 1824 and named for the wives, both named Ann, of the founders, John Allen and Elisha Rumsey.
