Geography of Green Bay
Green Bay, Wisconsin, the seat of Brown County. The city is on Green Bay, an arm of Lake Michigan, about 100 miles (160 km) north of Milwaukee. Green Bay is an industrial city and a Great Lakes port. Products include paper, machinery, and processed foods. A branch of the University of Wisconsin is here, and the city is the home of the Packers professional football team.
Green Bay is the oldest settlement in Wisconsin. In 1634 Jean Nicolet arrived there and claimed the region for France. In 1684 a French fort was erected, attracting settlers. The settlement passed to Great Britain in 1763 and to the United States in 1783. Green Bay was incorporated in 1854. It has the council-manager form of government.
