Geography of Mitchell

Mitchell, South Dakota, the seat of Davison County. It is situated near the James River, 125 miles (200 km) southeast of Pierre. Mitchell is the processing and shipping center for a large farming area that produces corn and other grains, livestock, and dairy products. Dakota Wesleyan University is here. Mitchell was settled in the 1870's and chartered as a city in 1883.
