Geography of Laramie
Laramie, Wyoming, the seat of Albany County, in the southeastern part of the state. It is on the Laramie River east of the Medicine Bow Range, at an elevation of about 7,200 feet (2,195 m). Laramie serves as the commercial and transportation center for a timber-producing and livestock-raising area. The city has cement plants, oil refineries, and railway shops. Laramie was settled in 1868 when the Union Pacific Railroad established a workers' camp here. It was chartered as a city by the Territory of Wyoming in 1873. Laramie is governed by a council and manager.
