Geography of Danville

Danville, Virginia, a city on the Dan River in the south-central part of the state. Danville is an important tobacco market and produces textiles and various other products. Attractions include a museum of fine arts and history and a museum devoted to the tobacco and textile industries.

Danville was first settled in 1792. In 1865, when Jefferson Davis and his cabinet fled here from Richmond, the city served briefly as the last capital of the Confederacy and then as the capital of Virginia.
