Geography of Clarksville

Clarksville, Tennessee, the seat of Montgomery County. It is on the Cumberland River at the mouth of the Red River, about 50 miles (80 km) northeast of Nashville, in a region of great scenic beauty. The city is in the heart of the tobacco belt and is a leading market for both leaf and manufactured tobacco. Austin Peay State University is here.

Clarksville was settled in 1784 and named for George Rogers Clark. It has the mayor-council form of government.
