Geography of Hagerstown
Hagerstown, Maryland, the seat of Washington County. It is on Antietam Creek some 65 miles (105 km) west-northwest of Baltimore. Hagerstown is a trade center for a farming region. The city's varied products include transportation equipment and toys. The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts is here. The house of Jonathan Hager, who settled the site about 1740, still stands. Near Hagerstown are Antietam National Battlefield and the first monument built in honor of George Washington (1827).
