Houma, Louisiana, the seat of Terrebonne Parish. Houma, a port on the Intracoastal Waterway, is about 45 miles (72 km) southwest of New Orleans. The city is a packing center for seafood and potatoes, and has sugar and oil refineries. Houma was settled about 1810.
