Fayetteville, Arkansas, the seat of Washington County. It is in the Ozark Mountains at an altitude of 1,416 feet (432 m) above sea level. Canning, poultry processing, and the manufacture of hardwood products, clothing, and sporting goods are the main industries. The main campus of University of Arkansas is here. Fayetteville was settled in 1828 and incorporated as a city in 1910. Several Civil War battles were fought nearby. The city has the council-manager form of government.
