Geography of Columbus

Columbus, Georgia, a city in the western part of the state on the Chattahoochee River, about 95 miles (153 km) south-southwest of Atlanta. It is a major textile center and also produces metal goods, machinery, and processed foods. Fort Benning, an army installation, is nearby. Columbus was founded in 1827 and incorporated a year later.
