Geography of Anderson-Indiana
Anderson, Indiana, the seat of Madison County. It is on the White River, about 33 miles (53 km) northeast of downtown Indianapolis. Anderson is an industrial city with factories producing automotive parts, packaging machinery, tools, and containers. The city serves as a trade center for the surrounding agricultural area. Anderson was first settled in 1823. It was chartered as a city in 1865. Between 1887 and 1900 development of nearby natural-gas reserves spurred the city's growth.
