Geography of Durango
Durango, or Victoria de Durango, Mexico, the capital of Durango state. It is 500 miles (800 km) northwest of Mexico City. Durango's altitude exceeds 6,000 feet (1,800 m) above sea level. Durango is a rail junction and a resort town. The city is the center for farm, mining, and lumber products of the surrounding area. In the city are iron foundries, textile and flour mills, tobacco factories, and sugar refineries. Durango was founded in 1563.
