Lake Vanern

Vänern, Lake, also Vener, the largest lake in Sweden and the third largest in Europe. It is in southwest Sweden. The lake is about 90 miles (145 km) long and 5 to 45 miles (8 to 72 km) wide and has an area of 2,140 square miles (5,545 km2). Its greatest depth is 320 feet (98 m). Lake Vänern is part of the Göta Canal system, and is linked with Stockholm on the northeast, Lake Vättern on the southeast, and Göteborg on the southwest. The largest river flowing into the lake is the Klar (Klarälven), which enters it near the city of Karlstad on the north.
