Geography of Inverness

Inverness, Scotland, a port city in the Highland region. It is on the Caledonian Canal at the head of Moray Firth, near Loch Ness. Inverness is often called the capital of the Highlands. It has shipyards, breweries, and textile mills. Inverness was a stronghold of the ancient Picts. The Battle of Culloden in 1746, in which the Highlanders under Prince Charles Edward were defeated by English troops, was fought nearby.
