Geography of Carlisle
Carlisle, England, a city in Cumbria. It is on Eden River eight miles (13 km) south of the Scottish border. The city was once a Roman outpost. It was destroyed by the Danes in 875 and rebuilt by William II in 1092. His castle houses a military museum. The cathedral, founded in the 12th century, is one of the smallest in England. Carlisle is an industrial city.
