Geography of Brighton
Brighton, England, a city on the English Channel in the county of East Sussex, about 50 miles (80 km) south of London. Brighton is primarily a seaside resort with a 4-mile (6-km) promenade and numerous hotels, restaurants, and theaters and other places of entertainment. The Royal Pavilion, a palace built in the late 18th and early 19th centuries by George IV while he was Prince of Wales, is the city's chief landmark. The University of Sussex was founded in Brighton in 1961.
