Guantanamo Bay
Guantánamo Bay, a sheltered inlet on the southern coast of Oriente Province, Cuba. The bay is about 12 miles (19 km) long and up to 5 miles (8 km) wide. The city of Guantánamo, north of the bay, is served by the ports of Caimanera and Boquerón. A U.S. naval station of 44 square miles (114 km2), with two airfields, is at the southern end of Guantánamo Bay. Treaties in 1903 and 1934 gave the United States the right to maintain a naval station here.
