Ponce, Puerto Rico's third largest city, 45 miles (72 km) southwest of San Juan. Ponce is the commercial and manufacturing center for an agricultural area, and is a major port. Processed food, iron, furniture, textiles, and cement are produced. A university and an art museum are here. Ponce was founded in the 17th century.
