Geography of Sholapur
Sholapur, India, a city in Maharashtra state, about 220 miles (354 km) southeast of Mumbai (Bombay). Sholapur is an important center of cotton-textile manufacturing and also produces metalwares, leather goods, and chemicals. A 14th-century Muslim fortress is the city's most notable structure. From the 15th century until India became independent in 1947, Sholapur was ruled in turn by Persians, Moguls, Hyderabad princes, Marathas, and the British.
