Beggarweed, a West Indian forage plant of the pea family. Like clover, it takes free nitrogen from the air and adds it to the soil. Beggarweed is grown for forage or as a cover crop in southern parts of the United States.

Beggarweed is Desmodium tortuosum of the family Leguminosae.
