Washington Palm

Washington Palm, a palm tree native to southern California, Mexico, and southwestern Arizona. The California Washington palm grows to a height of 80 feet (24 m) with a trunk diameter of up to 3 feet (90 cm). The Mexican Washington palm is more slender and grows to be 100 feet (30 m) tall. Both species bear large, fan-shaped leaves. The dead leaves hang downward to form a dense thatch over the trunk.

The California species is Washingtonia filifera; the Mexican, W. robusta. They belong to the palm family, Palmae.
