Cinquefoil
Cinquefoil, a flowering plant found mostly in the Northern Hemisphere. There are about 500 species of cinquefoils. The flowers, which grow in small, loose clusters, are usually yellow, white, or red. Most cinquefoils are perennials, though some are annuals. Cinquefoils grow as herbs or small shrubs. Many species are used in rock gardens or as border plants.
Cinquefoils make up the genus Potentilla of the rose family, Rosaceae. Potentilla argyrophylla and P. grandiflora are good border plants. Three-toothed cinquefoil, P. tridentata, and P. multifida are used in rock gardens. Shrubby cinquefoil, P. fruticosa, is a flowering shrub.
