Eugene, Oregon, the seat of Lane County. It is on the Willamette River, 125 miles (200 km) south of Portland. Eugene is the trading center for the upper Willamette Valley, noted for its agriculture and timber. The city produces food products, lumber, and lumber products. Eugene is the seat of the University of Oregon. The city was founded in 1853.
